Free Trieste: the new acts and strategies of the Campaign of Fiscal Liberation

Trieste, March 21st, 2015. – Today [3.21st] Free Trieste presented during a press conference at its Piazza della Borsa 7 office a new public act of the “Campaign of Fiscal Liberation of the citizens and enterprises of Trieste”. The campaign started on March 6th, addressing the Commissioner of the Italian Government, the Tax Commission, and Equitalia Nord S.p.A.

With this new document, Free Trieste is addressing the Commissioner of Government, the Prosecutor of the Republic, the Prosecutor of the Court of Auditors, the Questore, the Provincial Commander of the Financial Police in Trieste, and the Provincial Commander of Trieste’s Carabinieri. Free Trieste informed them about the beginning and the reasons of the Campaign of Fiscal Liberation. In particular, the Movement is explaining why the actions is not subversive, but a necessary and rightful action to re-establish the rule of law as set under Italian and international law.

The document and its annexes punctually identify the sources of international and Italian Constitutional law which recognize that Trieste is established as an independent State, the Free Territory of Trieste, with an international Free Port, under the 1947 Treaty of Peace with Italy. Furthermore, since 1954, the special civil trusteeship over Trieste is entrusted to the Italian Government (not to the Italian State). The Free Territory of Trieste is also a State under the UNSC’s own protection.

Free Trieste considers that the provisional Government has the duty to maintain Italy’s budgets and the fiscal system separate from Trieste’s, and also to comply with the Treaty of Peace’s provisions exempting Trieste from the payment of the ruinous Italian public debt. Indeed, by now the Italian public debt is 130% higher than Italy’s GDP.

However, Rome is letting the State of Italy to impose, collect and keep its taxes – inflated by corruption and public debt – also in Trieste. This is especially harmful for the Free Territory’s citizens, families, and enterprises.

In view of this, the Free Trieste Movement considers it necessary and urgent re-establishing the rule of law.

The Movement’s Campaign of Fiscal Liberation has three levels: Free Trieste, legitimized by more than 20,000 signatures of the citizens, acts before Italian and international authorities; at the same time, it will organize the individual and collective actions of citizens and enterprises who can no longer pay illegal Italian taxes as this would ruin them, but also the actions of citizens willing to seek a reimburse for the taxes they have already payed.

Free Trieste has also prepared criminal complaints on the grounds of forgery against the Italian officers who, so far, issued measures calling for the payment of illegal taxes on the false claim that the Free Territory of Trieste has no legal existence. These legal actions will be brought forward on the international level as well.
