Trieste stands for free taxation!
Trieste, May 22nd, 2013. – Today the Free Trieste Movement held a sit-in before the local Tax Revenue Agency, in via Stock 2/3.
During the event, a group of citizens presented the Agency with request to annul payment requests issued under Italian laws. The legal ground of the requests is that the Italian Republic recognizes Trieste’s independence, but the administering Italian Government has not exercised its authority to maintain Trieste’s taxation separate from Italy’s.
For instance, art. 5 of Annex X to the 1947 Treaty of Peace with Italy exempts Trieste from the payment of Italy’s public debt. Since Trieste’s independence, its taxation has nothing to do with the taxes of any other Country.
The Free Territory of Trieste and its international Free Port have the right to their own taxation.
Free Trieste’s campaigns on taxation do not aim at “avoiding taxes”.
The people of the Free Territory of Trieste want to pay fair taxes in their own State.
