The UN CESCR discusses the Alternative Report of Free Trieste
The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (UN CESCR) has accepted and placed on the provisional agenda of the Fifty-sixth session, taking place from 21 September to 9 October, the Alternative Report of the Free Trieste Movement about «Free Territory of Trieste and International Free Port of Trieste abuses committed by the Italian Government». The act became part of the V Report of the CESCR on Italy, with the title «Alternative Report of Trieste», and it is the first document on the matter to be discussed by offices of the United Nations in decades.
The Alternative Report analyses and presents the subject through six sections, the last one bringing forward recommendations and requests to the CESCR, to the Italian Government entrusted with the temporary civil administration of the Free Territory of Trieste and to the Republic of Italy. Also, the analysis of the Free Trieste Movement disproves erroneous information provided to the CESCR by two NGOs (UNPO and “Triest”).
