Free Trieste requests the suspension of Italian taxation to the E.Z.I.T.

Trieste, 9 October 2015. – The Free Trieste Movement addressed the Italian Commissioner of the Government and Prefect, as well as Region Friuli Venezia Giulia with a formal invitation to immediately suspend, and then rule null and void the taxation and enforced recovery of Italian taxes initiated against the EZIT – Ente Zona Industriale di Trieste (organization for the development of the industrial zone of Trieste).
The legal base of Free Trieste’s request are the three bodies’ powers of temporary civil administration of the Free Territory of Trieste, which they have received pursuant to art. 70 of Constitutional Law No. 1/1963.
In the document notified today (9 October) to the three administrative bodies, Free Trieste considers that enforcing the collection of the alleged unpaid taxes, which amount to EUR 9,2 billion, would put the EZIT in liquidation, however, that is not liable to pay, because it is a public body of the Free Territory of Trieste. Indeed, the EZIT was established by the Free Territory’s first provisional Government, the British-US A.M.G. F.T.T. (Order No. 104 of 12 May 1949. Official Gazette No. 14 – 21 May 1949).
Free Trieste’s document lists all pertinent provisions of international and of Italian law. In case the authorities addressed fail to fulfill their obligations, or delay action, Free Trieste it reserves the right to denounce the violations to the newly established I.P.R. F.T.T. – International Provisional Representative of the Free Territory of Trieste and «to promote, toward the liable functionaries and public Italian administrators, the needed actions of criminal punishment and civil compensation of damages».
