Trieste celebrates the 1947 Italian Peace Treaty
Trieste, 10 February 2016. – The Free Trieste Movement has celebrated with two public demonstrations the anniversary of the Italian Peace Treaty of 10 February 1947. At Article 21 and Annexes VI to X the Peace Treaty establishes the present-day Free Territory of Trieste and its international Free Port.
Since 1954, both are sub-entrusted to the Italian Government’s temporary civil administration under the Memorandum of Understanding of London.
The demonstrations took place in front of the Courthouse of Trieste and on the Trieste – Italy State border, near the Duino castle.
Free Trieste supported its demonstration presenting two specific requests.
The first one calls for the provisional Italian Government to strictly apply the Free Territory’s own jurisdiction of State.
The second one seeks the restoration of the signs marking Trieste’s border with Italy. Trieste’s previous, British-US Government correctly affixed such signs during its good administration (1947 – 1954).
